Nice video
Great information thanks, I’m about to start doing sharpening in Southern California as a part time, I have some experience on knives, I’ve sharpened some regular shears, but wanting to learn more on salon shear sharpening, any machine that you recommend for entry level? Thanks in advance.
@@LuisLopez-pj1ee You Must have a flathone style machine and a clamp or jig system. We have two we sell at www.bonika.com and can steer you toward someone we know that is selling their used one if you call the office. 7709724332.
What!!😅
Odd question. Im just starting out learning to sharpen beauty shears. Had a lady ask me to not make the tips too sharp. So after sharpening I took my 1200 grit plate and worked it over the last half inch of each blade . Any suggestions. Thanks, learning a lot from watching your channel.
Train me. I'll take the job.
do you also work the ride line?
I am a groomer and live in an area where there are no sharpeners. I’m interested in doing my own blades and shears, and possibly making it a side busienss
Fantastic.
Loved this video Bonnie. I made mistakes like that when I first started sharpening knives, trying to correct uneven factory grinds and ending up with wafer thin blades! These experiences do teach you not to jump in too quickly and know when to bow out and hand back. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
did what you said exactly and my cutting ceramic blade now doesnt cut.
Did you sharpen the metal blade? How did you sharpen the other blade? Was the tension right? Was the set back right? When was your clipper last serviced? The ceramic cutter is only a minor part of the clipper blade working.
@@BonikaShears i sharpened the ceramic blade set back , tension all seems correct . , checked again , checked again all correct except not cutting..ill buy a new ceramic blade no problem.
@@BonikaShears hi apologise as i said i was going to buy a blade cheap enough, but thought i would try one last time setting blade, its now working , i think it was the set back . thks.
Neat, that reminds me of my grandmas old flower shop.
really?
Thank you for the kind words, Luis. Those interested can get more information on training from www.bonika.com.
Awesome idea!
Used it just yesterday.
Great idea!
Glad you think so!
Extremely uplifting and encouragement
I'll have this edited by the end of the week so you can share it.

Where is the video of Jim doing an awesome job?
It's posted in the Monday VIP videos. I'll edit it soon. Did you pay for the VIP? If so, you'll be getting the link.
but u no what on the sispm i will to email thanks so much
good job bro
Thanks
Very nice setup!
Glad you think so!
I do want to mention, I did end up changing what I use for my lead tests! I have been using a florescent tester that glows green with the presence of lead under UV
@@KeepItSharp oooo nice. Where do you buy it?
Wow! Would love to pick your brains about this. It’s like going back to earlier days like a travelling’ tinker’ as we’d say in the uk. Marvellous. Thank you .
Totally!
What size inverters do you use?
I'll ask

Love Larissa's testimony!!! Don Nathan
Pretty awesome. I'll edit it and repost.
This is a handy piece. I created a similar one from my training with John Kuipers years ago. I'm definitely printing this. Thanks for posting things like this publicly.
Glad it was helpful!
So I have a cheap little set of clippers One of the blades is plastic And I can't get to the screws cuz they're not on the back
@@itsjustweard2328 what is the brand. The blade is most likely ceramic not plastic.
@@BonikaShears I think it's just a cheap Chinese set that you get off places like tamu. I don't even think you can sharpen them maybe they're all disposable I'm not sure
I use a Fish hook tyer $5 on ebay works a treat!!
You need to share this idea next year.
Nice setup!
I think so too!

Nice idea!
Good idea! However can’t find link in description. If you press on ‘more’ it just comes up with ‘there’s nothing more to see right now’
There is a link at the bottom of the page that says Flowchart and it takes you to a Google file and you can save or print.
Did the normal eraser work for anyone ??
@@potterdumb if the rust isn’t too bad, it works and there aren’t the scratches left behind like commercial rust erasers.

Your videos are a treasure trove. I hand-sharpen knives using a TSPROF K-03 and a plethora of stones, also I have quite the collection of synthetic and natural stones for my straight razors, and I've been dabbling with (beveled) barber shears for the last three years. Usually it's all fine and dandy, but a couple of times those burrs on the ride line really eluded me so far. I also tried a little flat stropping with a pasted strop, at that time, and it solved the issue, but still. I alternate between edge and inner strokes, as in 10 - 20 passes on the edge with the shears mounted on the K-03 tray, then 4-6 light free-hand passes on the same stone laying flat on the table, then again with a finer stone until the 5-6K range, or a Naniwa 10K if it's a very hard steel. I noticed you do edge-trailing strokes on your stone for burr removal; on knives it would be better to do edge-leading strokes, as far as I know, but there's surely something that I am missing here? Thanks a lot for your answer, I still have A TON to learn and you're a lovely teacher!
Some things I do because it's easier to teach. Are you keeping the pressure on the pivot? That's key.
@@BonikaShears Oh, I see, thanks! Anyway, I use steady pressure on the pivot, without sitting on it of course, and a tiny bit of torque, just a hint, to be sure to work on the actual edge. It's a straight razor habit that's hard to lose, I guess. Tonight I tried edge-trailing strokes on the inner edge, after sharpening the bevel, and it works better on mid-range and finer stone, as in 3K+, as opposed as the starting 600 stone that I use as a first step (if there aren't any chips to remove). I use hybrid synth / diamond stones, mostly, because they're way faster than synths, and they polish very nicely. Now I wonder about finishing shears on a belgian coticule. Maybe with harder steels... hmmm.
I would like Max's flow chart please. Thanks for all you do!
I'll have it as part of the Sharpeners Jam.
